Youngstown State University, the Youngstown Business Incubator and Cisco are offering free workshops this month to introduce college students, local entrepreneurs and business/industry partners to the Internet of Things.
The first workshop will be Tuesday, Sept. 18 and again on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 5 to 7 p.m. in the Ohio Room in Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. The free workshop focuses on integrating IoT in your business and some possible implementation techniques, along with reasons why individuals should consider using IoT in their business.
Participants should register online.
IoT is the concept of connecting any device to the Internet, from coffee makers and washing machines and jet engines to lamps, cars and heart monitors. Studies show that there will be more than 24 billion IoT devices worldwide by 2020, approximately four devices for every human being on the planet.
The free workshops are part of the new OH-IoT program, designed to heighten awareness of and help accelerate implementation of IoT applications. Initially, faculty from the YSU Department of Computer Science and Information Systems will develop seminar and workshop materials that will enable participants to develop a functional knowledge of IoT technology so that, upon completion, participants will have a basic understanding of various IoT technologies, exposure to some practical applications, and will be capable of implementing a rudimentary IoT application in a common application.
