YSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will feature the music of second-year graduate student Chandler Carpenter and undergraduate students Aaron White and Zach Fleischman.
The free concert occurs at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.
The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kent Engelhardt, will feature “Real Fake Blues” by Carpenter, and “Snapdragon” by White. The Jazz Combo, also directed by Engelhardt, will perform “Quadacity” by White and Fleischman’s arrangement of “So Nice.”
Carpenter is a jazz guitarist/composer from Brunswick, Ohio. He studies with Dr. Francois Fowler and Dr. David Morgan and is pursuing a master’s in jazz studies. He holds a bachelor’s in jazz performance from the University of Akron, where he studied with Jack Schantz, Dean Newton, and YSU alumnus Chris Coles. He is currently a graduate assistant in the Jazz Area at YSU’s Dana School of Music.
White, a freshman jazz composer/pianist from East Liverpool, studies with Dr. David Morgan and Jackie Warren.
Fleischman, a jazz saxophonist/arranger from East Sparta, Ohio, is a student of Dr. James Umble and Engelhardt.
