YSU’s Dana@McDonough will feature students in Dr. David Morgan’s Composition Studio. It premieres 7 p.m., Saturday, May 8 on the Cliffe College YouTube and McDonough YouTube channels.

Eight composition students will see their original music performed by other musicians or will perform their own composition.

FRANKO McEVOY

The students are: Enzo Chiodi (sophomore, Pittsburgh); Jesse Crownover (freshman, Pittsburgh); Maxwell Franko (senior, Poland); Logan Hoffner (freshman, Gibsonia, Pa.); Dai Hong (sophomore, Falls Church, Va.); Andrew Karkosiak (senior, Broadview Heights); Brendan McEvoy (junior, Fowler); and Sevérino Paredes (sophomore, New Kensington, Pa.).

“It is crucial for the composer to listen to and learn music from a wide array of genres and styles. Our composition students develop powerful and versatile tools to bring to any creative situation, facilitating satisfying artistic choices free of technical or imaginative limitations,” said Morgan.

Morgan said the goal is to enable motivated and curious young musicians to become versatile and proficient artists who can thrive in today’s music industry.

“Our alumni have gone on to enjoy exciting careers in many aspects of the industry, to attain advanced degrees from leading graduate programs, to teach music at the secondary and university levels, and to win prestigious awards and significant grants,” Morgan said.
