Canceled: Vijay Iyer Trio. Chestnut Room, Kilcawley Center, YSU, One University Plaza at Elm Street, Youngstown 44555. 330-941-3105. This new jazz piano trio was scheduled to perform Friday, Nov. 4 as part of YSU’s Pipino Performing Arts Series. The Vijay Iyer Trio performed key sets at Newport Jazz and Detroit Jazz Festivals over the summer. Iyer has been named “Pianist of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association. His 2021 release of “Uneasy” was one of the best-reviewed albums of last year: Pitchfork (Best New Music), the New YorkerNPR Music, and Jazz Times.  In addition to playing music from “Uneasy,” Iyer – a MacArthur fellow and Harvard professor – will be performing new music as well. Iyer was recently featured in Pitchfork’s recurring Music That Made Me series and premiered a newly commissioned work entitled “Ghosts Everywhere I Go” last April at Chicago’s Logan Center For The Arts. Iyer just returned to Harvard for a new semester, where he’s been a professor since 2014. He is currently instructing a Ph.D. program that he founded called Creative Practice and Critical Inquiry.
