YWCA of Youngstown renovation nears completion | The YWCA Board of Directors began planning the project in 1996 following a feasibility study.
The YWCA of Youngstown undertook an ambitious $10 million renovation and restoration of the historic building that has functioned, at various times in the past 100 years, as a homeless shelter, a place of worship and a center for childcare, education, health and recreation, social activities and women affected by crisis. YWCA Mahoning Valley will help jobseekers navigate their careers with a series of Job Skills Workshops in January.

Sessions occur 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday, from Jan. 6 through Jan. 24 at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave. There will be no class on Jan. 20 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The makeup date will be Friday, Jan. 24.

Workshops are open to men and women 18 years and older. Participants who successfully complete the workshops will be eligible for up to $100 in incentives and stipends.

Jobseekers will work with a coach and receive instruction in career exploration, resumé-writing, and interview practice to increase their employability. Workshops will focus on job retention, stability and financial literacy.

Sessions will feature visits to area resources, including Ohio Means Jobs and the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County’s Career and Job Center.

YWCA’s job skills workshops help participants increase their employability and remove barriers to employment to meet the demands of a challenging and changing job market.
